Tour de Half France - Summary (English)


What ?
A charity fund raising cycle ride of close to 2,500 km around the southern half of mainland France
Why ?
Raise a total of € 20,000 or more for two selected charitable organizations:

-          Cancer Research (ARC)
-          Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation
 
Sponsors (individuals and companies) will be sought and 100% of funds raised will go to charity.

When ?
A 3 week period commencing 27 May 2013 and a targeted arrival in Monaco on Sunday 16 June 2013

Who ?
Mark Miles (British, 48) is a former company director in the oil services industry. He has worked in Monaco for the past 18 years and is a Monaco resident and sports addict.

How ?
Solo, with no travelling assistance. Pre-defined stages and stopovers with friends and family, or hotels. Fellow cyclists welcome to join for any individual stages. Three rest days are planned.

Where ?
Starting and finishing in Monaco with an average daily distance of 130 km to be covered. Daily progress and reports, photos and video will be posted on this blog (and Facebook page), allowing for interactive monitoring and dialogue.

The itinerary heads westwards from Monaco passing through Toulon, Aix en Provence, Montpellier and Toulouse before reaching Dax. Turning northwards, the route heads for Cap Ferret before heading eastwards across the Massif Central and past Lyon until Geneva. The southwards home leg passes through Grenoble and the Alps, climbing the legendary 2,802m Col de la Bonette on the second last day.
