10. Cap Ferret - Bergerac

Thursday 6 June 2013

143 km

Elevation gain 715 m

Riding Time 5h 27 mins

Average Speed 26.3 km/h

Hot weather for this stage - the sun shone all day and, combined with a slight headwind, this meant that fluids intake was really important. Tired this evening.

I left Lège Cap Ferret at 9h30, saying goodbye to Patrick and Isabelle, and took the straight and flat road to Bordeaux. This was a bit monotonous but I had to stay alert because of the fast moving traffic - luckily there are some good cycle paths for some of the way.

I was a bit worried about crossing the centre of Bordeaux but I shouldn't have been. The GPS guided me well through the city where the system of cycle paths is really excellent and keeps you off the busiest roads. Before long I was at the Pont de Pierre and then onto the main road to Bergerac.

The beautiful city of Bordeaux

I arrived at Bergerac around 4pm which left some time to see the Sud Ouest newspaper local reporter, and wander around the very pretty old town. I found a quiet hotel and ate another huge plate of pasta and drank several bottles of water !

This stage took me over the 1,250 km mark - ie more than half way - but the hardest is yet to come !!!
