12. Brive - Clermont-Ferrand

Saturday 8 June 2013

141 km

Elevation gain 2,424 m

Riding Time 5 hrs 55 mins

Average Speed 23.9 km/h

A difficult stage with lots of climbs, although a bit shorter than planned because last night I stayed in Tulle (political base of President Hollande) instead of Brive. Complete change of weather from the heat of yesterday to the cold and rain of today.

I left Tulle (lots of thanks to Philippe and Claire) around 8.45am and was immediately faced with the first climb of the day - about 400m. The sky was already looking menacingly grey. Good progress until noon when I stopped at Ussel for a sandwich and took cover from the first shower of the day. Unfortunately I wasn't under cover when the second shower came, but it didn't last long and I managed to stay dry for the rest of the ride, arriving just in time in my hotel in Clermont Ferrand, before the heavy rain started.

A long way to go !!
Another disused railway

High point of today's ride

  1. Mark,
When leaving Clermont, be aware of the fat white rubber chap running after you with a smile on his face. Never stop! Keep pushing to the next town...

    1. Merci encore Pancho pour tes conseils - même si le gros pourrait me donner l'adresse d'un bon resto, je n'aurai pas le temps pour manger - demain par contre c'est une journée de repos :-)
